Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before running your first survey.

What do I get for £49.99?

A full environmental desktop study for your site across all 10 domains: ecology, archaeology, hydrology, soil, geology, contaminated land, mining, designated sites, landscape and infrastructure. You get an interactive HTML report with maps and data overlays, plus a branded Word document (.docx) ready to share with your client, including an executive summary, constraint levels, species breakdowns and recommended next surveys.

What's free, and when do I pay?

Drawing your site, querying the data, and viewing the preview are completely free, no signup or card required. You only pay the £49.99 if you choose to unlock the full report for that site.

Where does the data come from?

Every report is built from live queries to authoritative sources including the NBN Atlas, NatureScot, Scottish Forestry, the British Geological Survey, Historic Environment Scotland, the Coal Authority and SEPA. Data is accessed at the moment your report is generated, so it reflects the latest available records.

Is this a substitute for a full Phase 1 survey?

No. This is a desktop screening study based on publicly available data, an excellent first step for understanding a site's constraints and scoping further work. It does not replace a professional Phase 1 habitat survey, an on-site walkover, or specialist assessment.

How is AI used in the report?

AI is used to summarise and describe findings in plain language, for example the landscape description and executive summary. The underlying constraint data always comes from the authoritative databases, not from the AI.

Where Our Data Comes From

Every report is built from live queries to authoritative UK and Scottish environmental databases.

National Biodiversity Network (NBN) Atlas Species occurrence records for protected and notable species across Scotland
NatureScot Protected species guidance, SSSI, SAC, SPA, NNR, Ramsar and MPA boundaries
Scottish Forestry Ancient Woodland Inventory — semi-natural and long-established plantation woodland
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) Scheduled Monuments, Listed Buildings, Gardens & Designed Landscapes, Battlefields
Canmore Database HES national record of the historic environment — sites, monuments and buildings
British Geological Survey (BGS) 1:625,000 Bedrock and Superficial Deposits mapping via OGC API
James Hutton Institute National Soil Map of Scotland (SSKIB) 1:250,000 — soil type and land capability
Ordnance Survey NGD API Watercourses, rivers, burns and water network features
UK Lakes Database Lochs and standing water bodies across Scotland
SEPA Contaminated Land Register Registered contaminated sites and enforcement records in Scotland
Coal Authority Scottish coalfield boundaries, mine entries, and mining risk areas
OpenStreetMap Base mapping, satellite imagery and infrastructure features

Data currency varies by source. Records are accessed at the moment of report generation. Users should verify critical findings directly with the original data providers for planning or regulatory purposes.
